Kingspan KoolDuct zero ODP, the latest in ducting technology, was chosen for the Birmingham Treatment Centre, a £32 million NHS showcase healthcare facility that will provide a fast track service for around 170,000 patients a year.
The stunning landmark three-story glass and steel centre, built for Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust on its City Hospital site in Dudley Road, Birmingham, will transform the way patients are diagnosed and treated when it opens later this year.
The walk-in centre will include six operating theatres with recovery facilities for 34 patients, and outpatient clinics for specialties such as oncology and paediatrics. Patients with a wide range of conditions such as varicose veins and hernias will be seen, diagnosed and in some cases treated and sent home in less than 24 hours.
Ducting specialists Crown House Engineering installed a total of 6,000 square meters of the lightweight but strong Kingspan KoolDuct zero ODP System throughout the ceiling voids and riser ducts.
Gary Hague, of Crown House Engineering, said: "The fact that KoolDuct zero ODP is pre-insulated and does not require additional lagging made it ideal because of the confined ceiling void space which had to carry all services as well as the ducting.
"In addition the ease and speed of installation of the KoolDuct zero ODP System was a significant advantage on a project where there was a number of other trades on site."
